The belief that people are made in the image of God has been responsible for shaping humanity and civilization for centuries. But when these “foundations are destroyed what should the righteous do?” (Psalms 11:2) What happens when the image of God is erased from the definition of mankind? If the value of humanity can no longer be sustained, what will the consequences be for future generations?

Imago Dei is an apologetics conference designed to help Christians communicate and defend their faith more effectively, as they seek to recapture the image of God for our society today. We will examine how, through time, man has grappled with contrasting ethical issues, opposing worldviews and a sea of rival religious thought in the hope of finding meaning.

Workplace and Calling

The majority of Christians spend the majority of their waking hours in the workplace. In these seminars, we will be digging deeply into the Bible to explore how we can honour Christ in our work. We will look at the theological and practical realities of being a Christian in the workplace, seeking to ask challenging questions of ourselves, our vocation and our witness.

Evil and Suffering

In the seminars on evil and suffering, we will be asking some tough questions. Where does evil come from? Does the Christian have anything to say in a suffering world? We will look at the issue of natural disasters and ask questions about the role of judgement. Theological and practical, these seminars will equip us to think abut the problem of suffering ourselves as well as communicate with sceptics who may raise these questions with us.

Living out your Faith

Knowing what to do and doing it are two different things. This seminar stream on culture, prayer, doubt and questions will focus on real life applications. How can we recognise and respond to discussions of affluenza and the longings of the human heart that we find in our TV watching or movies? How can we work on our prayer lives? How can we deal with doubt, or help others with doubts? There will be lots of time for honest questions and plenty of practical challenge in these seminars.

Money Politics and Power

In these sessions, we will be addressed by leading Christian thinkers who work in the fields of banking and politics. They will share insights gleaned from years of serving Christ in such challenging environments and help us to focus our own witness to the truth in the public square, given the challenges of the current climate.

Where a preference for a specific seminar or group session is requested during registration, we will make every attempt to allocate delegates in accordance with such preference. However, when popular sessions mean bookings exceed the maximum number of spaces for a venue, or where delegates wish to change streams during an event or conference, it may not be possible for us to accommodate such preferences. In all such cases, we reserve the right to reject the request. Each request will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.

RZIM Europe’s Oxford Summer School will be held in one of the oldest colleges of Oxford University – The Queen’s College. This striking Oxford College is situated in the heart of the city on one of Oxford’s oldest roads – the High Street. The magnificent Radcliffe Camera, Sheldonian Theatre, Bodleian Library, and Bridge of Sighs are all just a few minutes’ walk away, as are the Botanical Gardens, Magdalen College, and the University Examination Schools.

Originally named the Hall of the Queen’s Scholars at Oxford, the college is the sixth oldest and was founded in 1341 by Robert de Eglesfield, a chaplain in the household of Queen Philippa, who named it in her honour.

The front quad has been called ‘the grandest piece of classical architecture in Oxford’ and the chapel, one of Oxford’s most notable buildings, has stood virtually unchanged since it was consecrated by Archbishop of York in 1719.

Lost and Found

“I once was lost, but now am found; was blind but now I see.”

Ex-slave trader, John Newton, penned these words in what would become one of the most famous hymns of all time, Amazing Grace. He described part of his own journey from the “many dangers, toils and snares” to his eventual redemption and salvation through Jesus Christ. But what rescue is there today for those who have been taught that God is merely a myth best relegated to history books? Has science rendered faith in God obsolete? Are Christians deluded? Is what you believe simply a matter of where you were raised? Please join us at the 2010 annual Oxford Summer School to explore the answers to these many other critical questions – that through our lives and words, the lost may see the light of Christ, and His grace may lead them home.

The RZIM Zacharias Trust Summer School will be held in one of the oldest colleges of Oxford University – Queen’s College. This striking Oxford College is situated in the heart of the city on one of Oxford’s oldest roads – the High Street. The magnificent Radcliffe Camera, Sheldonian Theatre, Bodleian Library, and Bridge of Sighs are all just a few minutes walk away, as are the Botanical Gardens, Magdalen College, and the University Examination Schools. Originally named the Hall of the Queen’s Scholars at Oxford, the college is the sixth oldest and was founded in 1341 by Robert de Eglesfield, a chaplain in the household of Queen Philippa, who named it in her honour.

The magnificent Library, one of the finest in England, was added during 1693-96 to house Bishop Thomas Barlow’s (Provost 1658-77) collection of books. I houses around 100,000 volumes and boasts one of the most diverse collections of rare books in Oxford. The front quad has been called ‘the grandest piece of classical architecture in Oxford’ and the chapel, one of Oxford’s most notable buildings, has stood virtually unchanged since it was consecrated by Archbishop of York in 1719. One of the most famous figures in the history of the church, John Wycliffe, studied at Queen’s in the fourteenth century. Wycliffe, on of the forerunners to the reformation, argued for sweeping reform of the church and is perhaps most famous for translating the Bible into English.

Registration

New process for 2010
Registration has changed slightly this year – we hope for the better. Last year we were bombarded with problems from card issuing banks rejecting the online payments during registration, all the banks were tightening up online security checks – which is great for you in the long-run, but a real pain during registration.

Therefore, all payments are to be made over the telephone direct with our office in the UK – This is the preferred option by the banks, so should make payment simple.
